Governor Blagojevich Restores DCFS and Most DHS Cuts

(Springfield, IL) — Late on Thursday, the Governor Rod Blagojevich signed the supplemental appropriation bill SB 1103.

The Governor did veto more than $55 million from the bill the General Assembly originally sent him.

However, the $14,871,200 in the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Foster Homes/Specialized Foster Care and Prevention line was restored, as well as $8,100,000 for DCFS funding of personal services to prevent the layoff of frontline staff.

Most Illinois Department of Human Service cuts were restored, including Drug and Alcohol services, mental health and DD. However, the Governor did not restore $260,300 in CCBYS cuts, $139,900 in Community Services cuts, and $260,300 in After School Youth Support Programs cuts.

Significant cuts remained in services provided by the Secretary of State and Attorney General.

“CCAI members should celebrate a victory in this action,” said Marge Berglind, Child Care Association of Illinois President. “Our voices were heard.”
